Die Mumins - Winter: Darkness and Hope and New Experiences

Die Mumins (6). Winter im Mumintal - Tove Jansson, Tove Jansson, Birgitta Kicherer

I love the Moomins. And I love this book. It's not only because I love winter, but the way Moomins experiences winter for the first time.

I really the way Tove Jansson describes the difficulties Moomin faces in this new and strange world, the way he learns to deal with and face his fears and the hope he learns to have.

The language is wonderfully poetic, Jansson paints with her words.

I'll be sure to re-read this one the next winter, or when I feel a depressive mood coming over.

Murder Ballads - The Depth of Humanity

In the Pines: 5 Murderballads - Erik Kriek, Johann Ulrich, Erik Kriek, Bluegrass Boogiemen

This comic takes five popular murder ballads and tells them artistically.

I really loved these stories. The style of the comic reminded me of gothic novels. It's expressive without being cluttered. The color palete is seemingly simple, black and white and one other colour different for each story.

It's spooky and sad and gripping.

Junji Ito's Cat Diary: Yon & Mu - Junji Ito

I've enjoyed this quite a bit, even though I had to get used to the art. I really liked the depiction of the cats, even though J's view was a little too strange for me.
